Balsa is a wellness-driven brand originally founded in Australia and now operating from Surrey, UK. Since 2016, Balsa has specialised in handcrafted, plant-based snacks, made from whole ingredients designed to nourish and energise. Their hero product — a trio of natural snack balls in Chocolate Brownie, Salted Caramel, and Pistachio Matcha — needed packaging that reflected both the clean, natural ethos of the brand and its growing presence in the premium health food market.

We were brought in to design and produce custom food-safe tubes that could protect the product, maintain freshness, and stand out on health store shelves. The solution needed to balance form, function, and food-grade compliance — all while supporting Balsa’s strong visual identity and eco-conscious values.

Functional Design – Food-Safe, Protective & Reusable

To ensure the product stayed fresh and safe without relying on plastic, we developed custom butted cardboard tubes with a focus on structural integrity and food safety. Each unit was made from non-toxic, food-grade materials and featured:

  • A grease-resistant liner to preserve product quality
  • Black internal caps for a clean, stylish look
  • Rolled edges for strength and repeated use
  • Secure butted tube structure to prevent separation or damage
  • Tube dimensions:
  • Internal: 205mm (H) × 43mm (D)
  • External: 215mm (H) × 47mm (D)
  • Lid height: 44mm

Sized specifically to fit the Balsa Balls, these tubes are ideal for on-the-go snacks, wellness supplements, or boutique food gifts, offering reusable convenience without compromising freshness or safety.

Premium Finish – CMYK Print & Branded Spigot Detail

One of the most distinctive features of Balsa’s packaging is the printed spigot — a clever detail that brings both branding and functionality into focus. We used full CMYK wrap printing across the outer tube and lid, finished in a smooth matt lamination for a premium, tactile feel.

Key highlights included:

  • Internally printed spigot that reveals an 8mm flash of colour when the lid is removed
  • A 52mm spigot diameter, adding structural support and visual dimension
  • A clean contrast between the black outer design and the vibrant interior print
  • Strong branding execution with minimal environmental impact

This combination of subtle detailing and smart engineering made Balsa’s food-grade tubes not only practical and sustainable but also visually striking — a perfect fit for modern, health-conscious brands aiming to elevate their product presentation.
