Celebrating Bukayo Saka: The Project Brief

New Balance partnered with Bukayo Saka to launch a limited-edition capsule collection celebrating his rise in football and impact on culture. To support this, they required premium packaging that reflected both Saka’s individuality and New Balance’s commitment to innovation.

We were tasked with creating a bold and stylish presentation solution that would elevate the unboxing experience. The result was a custom board slipcase and acrylic tray unit—designed to protect, showcase, and embody the spirit of the collaboration.

Premium Packaging Specifications & Materials

The outer slipcase was constructed using 3mm unlined greyboard and wrapped in Black Wibalin 120gsm paper for a sleek, tactile finish. The dimensions — 230 x 350 x 140mm — were carefully chosen to house the interior components with precision. Embellished with foiled NB and Bukayo Saka logos, the case exudes understated elegance and instantly communicates quality.

Inside, a light-smoked acrylic tray printed with silver NB branding on all four sides added a touch of modern sophistication. Beneath the tray, CAD-cut Senses Capsicum 250gsm paper in a black/red colourway added depth and visual interest, tying the design back to New Balance’s identity.

Design Features That Elevate the Experience

Every element of the packaging was purposefully selected to enhance the visual and sensory impact:

  • Three diamond-shaped windows were cut into the slipcase, each with turned edges for a clean finish. The spine window doubled as a thumb hole for easy access.
  • The acrylic tray’s base was lined with Astro Turf, adding texture and cleverly connecting the design to Saka’s football background.
  • A foam insert held the product securely in place, blending protection with a premium feel.
  • Subtle contrasts between matte, gloss, texture, and transparency created an immersive, high-end presentation that echoed the story of both the player and the product.
